THE REQUIREMENT
Choose an image from the ones provided. Write an analysis of the picture, focusing on the message or meaning of the picture. DO NOT describe the picture, but rather talk about what impressions, emotions, values or ideas the picture is conveying.
THE RESPONSE
I wrote an essay about Sally Mann's 1989 photograph Candy Cigarette. Staying away from speculation, and remaining objective, I focussed on the meaning, the message, and the medium of the image. Don't try to do all of that- make some decisions about what you want to focus on.

It was difficult to remain objective when writing about an image, but it helped to have the ideas of message, medium and meaning to focus on.
