THE REQUIREMENT

Choose an image that has historical, social or cultural significance. Create a poster to present it to the class. Also, write an essay about the image: the thesis will articulate your reasoning about the significance of the image.

THE RESPONSE

I chose the image of Emily Carr's 1935 painting Scorned as Timber, Beloved of the Sky.

I wrote an essay about this image, making the case for the significance of the image, how it changed people's behaviour or attitudes? The essay will presented an analysis of the significance of the image, while also placing it in historical, social and cultural context, explaining the impact of the image at the time it was created, as well as the continuing significance of the image. I created a poster about this image as well, which was a summary of the essay's messages.

This poster was accompanied by a 2,000-word essay about the image, which included background of the artist and reasons for its significance in history.

PAINT SPLATTERS ?

It was very difficult to whittle down all the information researched about this image into small, easily understood points.
