THE REQUIREMENT
This project is exploring the process behind creating an intermediate-level web site design. The final design thoughtful, appropriate, useful, usable, engaging, and compelling. Begin by choosing a household object. Treat this item like a personality. Treat this item like a personality, and design for it its own online presence. Do not sell this item, rather, treat it and its family (similar or like items) as a group or collection.
THE RESPONSE
I provided a web site structure in the form of a site map, with carefully considered content sections. I then developed an appropriate identity for this item that expresses some – intentional – personality, with a written 150-word bio on your object family that clearly communicates said personality. Next was a visual identity system based on that personality, including colours, a logo, typefaces, and image types. The next step was wireframes, showing 3 different home page layout alternatives, focused on menu design and grid use. The designs were based on a clearly-stated and defendable rationale. Based on feedback, one design was selected and moved forward with necessary design changes. Then, I provided a minimum of 3 additional site pages. I supported all design choices in a one-page design rationale, based primarily on the design’s connection to concept.

DIRE STRAITS
I found the hardest part of this was harsh criticism of designs because of their poor defensibility. I learned to always have a defense prepared for every design decision, ever. The feedback process on this project was a huge wake-up call.
