THE CHALLENGE
The assignment was to correlate personal strengths with a specific organization in order to come up with a plan to get an interview with that company. This included research of the company, self-assessment in terms of both personal and professional capabilities, as well as goals. Further, the exercise was to be completed for two different types of businesses, to incorporate diverse methods of communication and inquiry.
THE SOLUTION
I formulated a fishbone diagram using the research gathered. I included information about the company garnered from web and social media sites, press, and posted reviews and interviews. I completed a character appraisal through self-assessment as well as surveyed data from colleagues to provide a through compilation of details.
I put this information together into a cover letter and resume tailored to the targeted companies.
THE OUTCOME
I created the final artifacts for this project were a fishbone diagram, which I was then able to easily translate into a cover letter and targeted resume for a specific job within a specific company.
I translated the data into a visualization that connected pertinent parts of it together, to enable quick and easy recognition of relationships.
I indexed information obtained that was crucial to the outcome for this project. I was able to ascertain patterns within differing spheres and correlate them together to form reasonable conclusions that were the basis of this project.
I made the core outcome for this client which was the fishbone diagram: from this, everything else flowed effortlessly. I completed in-depth research from many diverse sources, to inform my decisions on this project.
I created the fishbone diagram by incorporating elements of graphic design, layout, and information architecture, all with a focus on the targeted client. This was the coming together of research, data, and design that is so much a part of the information design repertoire.
I focussed on the end game for the project: a cover letter and resume, although they were secondary to the research. It provided a relevant motivation within the setting, as well as purposeful research and self-assessment.

FISH, OR CUT BAIT ?
I had trouble seeing how all of the research was going to come together into anything meaningful, however I persisted and once I was able to condense and summarize properly the final product was easily derived.
